Litter Found Throughout Dominion Gardens Park: A Call to Protect Georgetown’s Public Spaces

GEORGETOWN, ONTARIO — An evening walk through Dominion Gardens Park revealed an unfortunate sight: litter and discarded items scattered across the grass and around one of the park’s picnic areas.

During a visit to the park, La Verdad Express documented the conditions through a series of photographs showing disposable containers, wrappers, cups, a discarded can and other small pieces of litter around a picnic table and across sections of the surrounding grass.

The images highlight a situation that stands in sharp contrast to the purpose of public parks — places intended for recreation, family activities, relaxation and community enjoyment.

Keeping a public park clean should not depend solely on municipal services. Everyone who uses these shared spaces also has a responsibility to leave them in good condition for the next person.

The question is simple: Why leave something on the ground when it can be properly disposed of in a waste or recycling bin?

Beyond creating an unpleasant appearance, litter can negatively affect the surrounding environment. Certain discarded items may also pose a risk to wildlife that encounters or ingests them.

La Verdad Express is not attributing the litter to any individual or group. The photographs document only the conditions observed during our visit and do not establish who left the items behind or how long they had been there.

The purpose of this report is not to assign blame, but to bring attention to an issue that deserves community awareness and to encourage greater responsibility in the way we care for shared public spaces.

Dominion Gardens Park belongs to the community, and keeping it clean is a responsibility we all share.

Taking just a few seconds to collect and properly dispose of our waste can make a meaningful difference in keeping Georgetown clean, welcoming and enjoyable for families, residents and everyone who visits its parks.

Caring for our community begins with the small things we do every day.
